Most installed fences cost $20 to $60 per linear foot in 2026, which works out to $3,000 to $9,000 for 150 feet. Those numbers are national. In Scottsdale the result turns on the material, on how much granite or caliche the post holes meet, and on whether the job is a full fence or a few pieces added to block walls you already have.
The dollar ranges on this page are national figures that HomeGuide published for 2026. They are not quotes from us. Labor rates in the Phoenix area, material prices and the conditions on your lot push a Scottsdale job higher or lower. Last checked October 2026.
How much does a fence cost per foot?
| Material | Installed cost per foot |
|---|---|
| Chain link | $9 to $30 |
| Wood | $20 to $50 |
| Vinyl | $30 to $60 |
| Aluminum | $25 to $75 |
| Wrought iron | $50 to $85 |
How much does a 6-foot wood privacy fence cost?
Nationally, a 6-foot privacy fence runs $25 to $60 per foot installed. The totals below use the general $20 to $60 range, and a tall solid fence belongs toward the top of each row because it uses more lumber and stouter posts. Scottsdale builders commonly put wood on steel posts, and that shifts the material bill.
| Fence length | Typical installed cost |
|---|---|
| 50 feet | $1,000 to $3,000 |
| 100 feet | $2,000 to $6,000 |
| 150 feet | $3,000 to $9,000 |
| 200 feet | $4,000 to $12,000 |
What is the cheapest fence to have installed?
Chain link, at roughly $9 per foot and up in the national figures. If you need privacy for the least money, compare a simple wood board fence with chain link fitted with slats. If the goal is keeping a large dog in the yard on a budget, 5 or 6 foot chain link is enough for most dogs. Check your association before choosing it, because many Scottsdale communities do not allow chain link where it can be seen.
Is black aluminum cheaper than wrought iron or vinyl?
Aluminum is cheaper than wrought iron and sits near vinyl. The national ranges are $25 to $75 per foot for aluminum, $50 to $85 for wrought iron and $30 to $60 for vinyl. Around Scottsdale, the fence people call wrought iron is nearly always welded tubular steel with a powder coat, and it is the standard view fence here. Aluminum weighs less and will not rust beside a pool or a misting system.
How much extra does a gate cost?
A gate is a separate item with its own price. Width, material, hinges, latch and any operator set it. A walk gate at the side of the house costs least. A double RV gate or an automatic driveway gate costs most. When the gate goes in a block wall, new steel posts usually have to be set beside the masonry, and that is part of the gate line on our estimate.
How much extra for a slope, brush or an old fence?
Those are priced once we have walked the line, since no two lots are alike. The common Scottsdale extras are coring post holes in granite or breaking through caliche, hauling away the old fence, working around saguaros, cholla and other protected desert plants, and carrying material by hand up a hillside lot where a truck cannot reach.
I got three quotes and they are far apart. Which one is realistic?
Trust the quote that describes the same job you asked for. Put the three side by side and compare length, height, material and its thickness or grade, the finish on steel, post size and depth, what happens if rock is hit, the gates, removal of the old fence, the city permit and cleanup. A very low number usually means something on that list is missing. Then look up each company's licence on the Arizona Registrar of Contractors website.
Does a fence add value to my home?
A sound fence or gate helps a house show well, and buyers with a pool, pets or young children look for one. Do not expect to get every dollar back at sale. Questions about property taxes go to the Maricopa County Assessor's Office, which is the body that values improvements.
