How Long Does It Take to Install a Fence in Scottsdale?

How long a fence installation takes in Scottsdale, what slows it down, and how to plan around a new dog, a pool or an HOA deadline.

The installation itself usually takes 2 to 3 working days on an average yard, spread over roughly a week so the concrete at the posts can cure. The longer wait comes earlier, with the estimate, the city permit, HOA approval, the 811 notice and a place on the schedule.

What happens, in order

  • A free visit to measure, followed by a written quote.
  • City permit for a fence over 3 feet, and HOA approval where your community requires it.
  • Arizona 811 request at least two full working days ahead of digging.
  • Old fence out, holes dug or cored, posts concreted and left to cure.
  • Panels or steel sections hung, gates fitted, site cleaned and walked with you.

What slows a fence job down in Scottsdale?

  • City plan review, particularly for retaining walls and hillside lots.
  • HOA design committees, many of which meet monthly.
  • Granite and caliche that have to be cored or broken.
  • Extreme summer heat, which moves crews to early hours, and afternoon monsoon storms.
  • Custom steel that has to be fabricated and powder coated.
  • Gate operators that need power brought to the gate.

We are getting a dog in three weeks and have no fence. What is fastest?

Phone today, since approvals and the 811 wait will take a slice of those three weeks. Stock materials install soonest. If block walls already cover most of the yard, two side gates may be the entire job. Another route is a small run built now, with the rest designed at a normal pace.

We are putting in a pool. Fence before or after?

Design the barrier along with the pool and install it once the dig is finished. Excavators need access, and that often means opening a wall and closing it afterwards. The barrier must be finished and pass inspection before the city signs off on the pool.

My association says fix the fallen panels by Monday and my contractor keeps delaying. Can a handyman patch it?

Yes. A handyman patch to your own fence is up to you and will usually meet a short notice. Check your contract and tell the contractor in writing first. Arizona's handyman exemption stops at jobs of $1,000 and at anything that needs a permit, and Scottsdale requires a permit to replace a fence.

A real price needs someone to stand on your lot and measure. That visit is free. Call (480) 530-6409, or text a photo of the fence line to the same number.
